From August 24th to 28th, on the eve of the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, over 1000 volunteers from around the country will gather to rehabilitate 50 homes in the historic Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans.  Fifty for Five will bring together volunteers, community members, corporate sponsors, media, and celebrities to showcase the tremendous impact we are making in this community, and to support and focus attention on efforts to address the ongoing needs of low-income homeowners.

Through this event, volunteers will have an opportunity to be part of the biggest project in the Rebuilding Together network’s history and make a huge impact on the Gentilly neighborhood, which is still struggling to recover from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  This is an opportunity to come together to make a difference in the lives of 50 families in need.

Fifty for Five marks a milestone in Rebuilding Together, Inc.’s “Rebuild 1000” campaign to restore 1000 homes in the Gulf area that were affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  To date, more than 700 Rebuilding Together homes have been rebuilt in response to the devastation created by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Rebuilding Together, Inc. is waiving the $250 Volunteer Fee for the first 300 Rebuilding Together volunteers nationwide who sign up before July 1, 2010.  In addition to helping underwrite the cost of these projects, this fee covers breakfast and lunch for four days, t-shirts, a water bottle and water, and transportation to and from project sites from downtown New Orleans.  Travel to and from New Orleans, accommodations, and evening meals will be the responsibility of the volunteer. We have secured discounted lodging through Choice Hotels and through Valentino Hotels, ranging from $59-72 per night, single or double occupancy.
