Bringing volunteers & communities together to improve the homes & lives of low-income homeowners.
Safe at Home

The primary goal of Rebuilding Together’s Safe at Home program is to address home repair and maintenance issues that potentially present a safety risk or limit the access to or within the home. This strategy is driven by Rebuilding Together’s vision of a Safe and Healthy Home for everyone.  Safe at Home volunteers provide minor home safety or accessibility modifications to the homes of low-income older adults or individuals with disabilities who are faced with the prospect of losing their independence as the result of needing a home safety or accessibility modification that they are unable to address.

Volunteer projects are small-scale and capable of being completed by two to four volunteers in one day. Handy-person and light carpentry skills are necessary.  We prefer that all volunteers make at least a three-month commitment to the program and that they be available for a half to full workday during regular business hours on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  RTTC will provide training on the specific hardware that we install.  Volunteers should also be capable communicators, sensitive to the circumstances of our homeowner clients.  All volunteers must satisfactorily complete a background check and are required to participate in an orientation and training.  Training will focus on the mission and policies of Rebuilding Together Twin Cities, home safety issues for our clients, and the installation of standard Safe at Home hardware.
